Product ratings according to international standards

We evaluate your products according to the following standards:

- ISO 14067 - Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)

- ISO 14040/44 - Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

- ISO 14025 - Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)

- EN15804 - EPD format for the construction sector

Product life cycle analysis

In the field of life path analysis, there are various options that depend on its goal and purpose.

System boundary - cradle to grave or ...?

The life cycle of products can be divided into different phases. These depend on the product type and its use. Every product has a manufacturing phase, which includes the supply chain. There is also a usage phase, in which various options can be considered, such as consumption or wear and tear followed by maintenance, repair, etc. Furthermore, there are various disposal options that can be included in the analysis.

Environmental indicators - Carbon footprint vs. full life cycle assessment

Within the framework of life cycle analyses, there is the possibility to evaluate only the greenhouse gas emissions using a climate balance (= Product Carbon Footprint, PCF) or the total environmental impacts using life cycle assessment (= Life Cycle Assessment, LCA).

Both approaches are standards-based, and there is no difference in the effort required to create them using ecosy. However, life cycle assessments offer more extensive possibilities for analysis and indicator development, as the carbon footprint is just one indicator within a comprehensive set of indicators.

Communication format - the EPD as an all-rounder

Furthermore, life cycle assessment provides the basis for an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) according to ISO 14025. This is already a necessary prerequisite in many EU member states for the external communication of product environmental impacts. Moreover, it is increasingly becoming a mandatory requirement in many industrial sectors as part of tender processes.

Life path analyses:
PCF & LCA

PCF - the Product Carbon Footprint
according to ISO 14067

Evaluation of all greenhouse gases according to the international GHG Protocol and the further-reaching ISO 14067.

Why is a standardized carbon footprint for products based on an ISO standard?

A so-called Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) meets various requirements. Our customers typically use it for the following purposes:

- As a prerequisite for Cradle-to-Cradle certifications

- As a data provider for Scope 3.1 of an organizational carbon footprint according to the GHG Protocol

- As a decision criterion for supplier selection (materials, energy, transport, etc.)

ecosy creates your carbon footprint in such a way that an environmental impact assessment or product declaration (EPD) can be generated from it at any time!

LCA - the life cycle assessment according to
ISO 14040/44

Evaluation of all environmental indicators according to international ISO 14040/44 - including carbon footprint according to the GHG Protocol

Why is a standardized life cycle assessment for products based on an ISO standard necessary?

An environmental impact assessment (EIA) meets various requirements. Our customers typically use it for the following purposes:

See Product Carbon Footprint and, furthermore, as a prerequisite for professional ecodesign:

- Holistic benchmarking of materials

- Professional material selection

- Disposal scenarios for the end of the product life

ecosy creates an environmental impact assessment for you in such a way that an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) can be generated from it at any time!

LCA communication format

EPD - Environmental Product Declaration
according to ISO 14025 & EN 15804

Verification of an LCA according to international standards and publication of the results in various databases

Why is a verified EPD for products according to an ISO standard necessary?

An EPD meets various requirements. Our customers typically use it for the following purposes:

See Product Carbon Footprint and LCA, and more:

- Access to Green Building tenders

- Prerequisite for ecological marketing within the EU

- future requirement for CE marking of products

- verified evidence for Product Carbon Footprint results

ecosy creates or renews your EPD through various EPD program providers. We would be happy to show you the possibilities!

Ecodesign

Product design from an economic and ecological perspective

Product development taking into account selected environmental indicators

Why develop products with ecological aspects in mind?

Due to legal regulations and specific customer requirements, products today face diverse demands throughout their entire product lifecycle. Companies encounter various challenges as early as the development phase:

Cost and quality aspects should be expanded to include environmental aspects, but you don't know which indicators are important, and there are

- Due to the EU taxonomy, you would like to evaluate other environmental indicators besides the carbon footprint, but you don't know where to obtain reliable or standardized values.

- You want to use new materials, but you don't know their environmental impact.

- They do not know the environmental impact of new production methods

- They do not know the influence of the transport routes on the overall result

- They do not know what influence product use has in the context of manufacturing.

- You want to optimize products towards a circular economy, but you are unaware of the environmental impacts of the various disposal options.

These and similar questions can only be answered reliably with a professional analysis and the corresponding know-how.

ecosy supports your laboratory, your development, your purchasing department and other involved departments in selecting and evaluating crucial environmental indicators so that they can make future-proof decisions for their company!
